Egnalya Bartra De Aznaran was born in San Martin, Peru. Since she was little, she has shown her talent toward Art. Competing against many schools in the Lima area, she won her first art award at 12 years old. Later, when she was 15 years old, she received the First Place Award, commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Discovery of the Machu-Picchu Ruins, located in Cuzco, Peru. This important award was presented to her, on a TV program aired on Channel 4, in Lima, Peru, for her bright artwork. Egnalya is a graduate of the prestigious National Superior School of Bellas Artes in Lima, Peru. She studied Artistic Drawing and Painting, Art History, Anatomy, Psychology, and The Old Masters. She felt a deep admiration for great artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Renoir, Degas, Boucher, Velasques and Murillo. In addition, Egnalya has taken advanced techniques in oil painting at Truman College of Chicago. In 1982, she exhibited fifteen of her works representing "Peruvian Customs and Traditional Scenes" at the Truman College Art Gallery. Egnalya also holds a Degree in Interior Design from the Catholic University of Peru. She has conducted several Home Decoration Seminars sponsored by Sears and Lions Club International in various countries. In California, she was selected to participate in the 1998 and 2003 "Safeway Hispanic Cultural Calendar" which shows several of her original paintings. Egnalya's work has been accepted in numerous regional and national art shows in Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, Chicago, Florida and California. Her artwork has won several awards of merit and are included in public, private and corporate collections. One of her works was acquired by the Washington National Bank of Chicago. Egnalya was commissioned to do ten oil paintings for the ship "Huayna Capac", property of the Peruvian Steamship Company. This vessel now travels around the world carrying inside Egnalya's artwork. Egnalya won a recognition award at the 2003 Santa Clara Art Association Annual Show held at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara. She received an award at the 2004 Art Museum of Los Gatos open Juried Show, Egnalya won an Award of Merit from the AVARTFEST 2004 (Alliance of Visual Artists) at the Triton Museum of Art. In 2005, Egnalya won the PEOPLE's CHOICE AWARD at the Mayor's Art Show held in the City of Lathrop, CA. In April 2006, Egnalya was the featured Artist of the Stockton Art league of CA, having an exhibition at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery. Located on the Miracle Mile, Stockton, CA.
Egnalya received two Awards of Merit: the Sponsor Award and the People’s Choice Award, at the 2007 Mayor’s Contest/ Art Show in the City of Lathrop, CA.
Painting figures and portraits on commission is Egnalya's specialty. She also does quality replicas of Masterpieces and can re-create "any painting your heart desires." She is available to paint CHILDREN'S PORTRAITS, FAMILY PORTRAITS, CORPORATE and OFFICIAL PORTRAITS. She will also paint your favorite pet, your home, landscapes, floral motifs or a simple still life...all of them painted with crisp detail and great realism - paintings that reflect strong personal feelings and experiences; done with exquisite colors and excellent technique. In her portraits, not only can you find an accurate physical likeness, but, character (which is reflected in the eyes) because "the eyes are the windows of the soul." Egnalya is most renown for her depictions of Peruvian Culture. Her exhibits have earned her television appearances and numerous newspaper interviews internationally. This versatile artist works with oil, charcoal, colored pencil, pen and ink, and makes textile designs, silk screen, graphic designs, hand-painted fabrics and special cards for all occasions. Egnalya exhibition at the Santa Clara Chamber of Commerce featured excellent pen and ink drawings representing California Missions and prominent local settings.
